When my good friend and college roomate came to visit me for my 40th birthday she was telling me I used to do ten minutes of abdominal crunches every night…even if we went out dancing till one or two in the morning! Now as a mom of two, it seems competely ridiculous and unnecessary. In fact, since teaching yoga, I rarely do additional abdominal work. But when ab work is requested in my yoga classes I like to teach a super fast, effective ab workout which you will see in this YOU TUBE video. In this video I show one set where I work into the waist, and then a set in the center. Make sure when you do the crunches that you think of lifting with your chest to avoid pulling on your neck. You will begin with your hands behind your head and your knees bent with your feet on the floor. Bring your left elbow towards your right knee, and hold for 8 counts. (Once you get stronger you will do the same exercise only you will extend your left leg while bringing your left elbow towards your right knee). Next bring your right elbow towards your left knee while extending your right leg and hold for 8 counts. Then alternate the sequence for 4 counts, then four sets of 2 counts, followed by 8 pulses in the center. Repeat the entire sequence just once more for an ultimate burn and to work deep into your abdominals.
Beyond ab workouts how you eat, and how you feel inside will affect the way you look. My plan is to continue to share my pesonal workouts, eating habits, and relationship tips in upcoming videos with the hope that it will help and inspire you! Namaste, Sara Holliday MFT, CPT, HHP
