Postpartum Weight Loss: More Cardio If I do Yoga?

To Sara of Fit by Sara: “I started taking a Vinyasa 1, 2 class three times per week and love it! The class is 1 hr. 15 min. and by the end my muscles are shaking and I’m drenched in sweat. If I want to lose weight do I need to add more cardio or can I stick with the yoga 3 x per week?”

“It sounds like you are definitely getting your heart rate up and thus burning a bunch of calories and you’re enjoying what you’re doing so you’ll be more likely to stick with it. However, if you want to lose weight I recommend doing one or two more yoga or cardio workouts per week. According to the National Weight Control Registry people who exercised an hour per day at a moderate to high intensity lost weight and kept it off for a year.” Namaste-Sara Holliday MFT, CPT
