Pregnancy Weight Gain- Fear of Gaining Too Much Weight

To Sara of Fit by Sara: “I’m in the second trimester of my seconed pregnancy and have already gained 10 more pounds than I did in my first.  I’m afraid I’m going to be HUGE!  I don’t feel like I’m doing anything different than the first time–I exercise and eat healthy.  Any suggestions to keep my weight in check?”

From Fit by Sara: “The second pregnancy can be much different than your first.  You may gain more weight in the beginning/middle of your pregnancy and less towards the end of your pregnancy.  I recommend that you focus less on your weight and more on being healthy.  Find out from your doctor if you’re on the right track.  If so, there’s no need to worry about the number on the scale.  In fact if it’s causing you anxiety you can tell your docotor (or nurse), “Please don’t tell me my weight, just let me know if I’m doing ok.”  Now is the time to focus on nourishing your body and baby with healthy foods, and continuing to exercise as long as you feel comfortable doing so.  So relax…it sounds to me like you’re doing just fine.” –Sara Holliday, MFT CPT
