Pregnancy Exercise- Stretching is Good for Your Body

I’ve often been asked if stretching is beneficial for pregnant women.  The answer is absolutely yes!  Stretching can help to alievate pain caused by pregnancy such as tightness in the buttocks and low back (see stretch below).  Also when taught correctly the yoga breath can help to prepare mom to be for labor.  The main thing is to listen to your body and never overstretch to the point where it’s painful.

Try this simple stretch to “lengthen” the back of your legs and reduce tension in your body: Place the edge of one ankle on a low chair or sofa.  Gently walk your hands towards your extended foot.  Inhale lift your chest up, exhale sink deeper into the stretch.  Repeat 10-15 breaths on each side.
