A common question I get is “how many crunches do I need to do to get toned abdominals?” The answer is actually two-fold. You can do a thousand crunches and never see definition if you have high body fat due to a poor diet. Also, you do not need to do additional crunches if you are doing other types of exercise like kickboxing, yoga, and/ or pilates. Kickboxing, yoga, and pilates often use the “core” or abdominals to stabilize other muscles such as the low back. Just remember that before you start any exercise routine after having a baby, give your body time to heal. Consult with your doctor. It may take 4-6 weeks for vaginal delivery, and 10-12 (or even longer) for c-sections.
