Yoga~ Let Go of Preconceived Notions to Find Inner Peace


When I first heard about yoga I had the image of people doing strange postures and chanting which made me uncomfortable, yet I was curious. Once I started practicing yoga I realized that it can be as spirirtual as you want it to be. For example, if you have a strong religious belief then you can connect with your higher power, and if you aren’t religious but consider yourself spiritual you can chose to connect with your deepest self. The chanting of OM in my mind means to connect with everyone and everything through a beautiful vibration. Yoga takes the emphasis away from external problems and “to do” lists and connects you to the moment through your breath. The breath is also used to aide you to go deeper into postures which challenges the mind to let go and be present. When practiced regularly, yoga will resonate in all areas of your life-you will have a deeper awareness of your actions, you will see the beauty in everyday things, and you will feel a deeper connection beyond the self. –Sara Holliday MFT, CPT
