Pregnancy: “How do I get comfortable?”

A common question my pregnant clients ask is what they can do to be more comfortable.  As your belly grows there will be more pressure on your low back.  A great way to allevate pressure on your spine when you sleep is to place a pillow between your legs, and underneath your belly.  Better yet, there are great pillows made especially for pregnant women.  I got a good, inexpensive one at Costco.  Another important way to ease discomfort is to keep moving!  You may not feel like exercising, but it really can help to ease muscle pain and discomfort.  Try a prenatal yoga class or a prenatal yoga DVD.  Yoga is excellent for maintaining muscle tone, decreasing muscle pain, reducing stress, and providing a deeper connection to your baby.  Another great exercise is swimming.  Towards the end of the third trimester I loved swimming because it made me feel so nice and light.  Last tip…drink plenty of water!  Water will help to reduce edema (or swelling), plus water will help to keep your body hydrated.
