Postpartum Weight Loss- Yoga for Toned Abs

If you want to tone and firm your abdominal muscles yoga is a great choice. Plank position (similar to a push up position) is often used to flow from one posture to the next.  This transition posture alone strengthens the core and low back.  Also many standing postures where you arch back (such as reverse warrior two and standing back bend) incorporate the abdominals and low back muscles.  If practiced regularly (min. of 3 x per week for 50-60 min.) you are likely to notice a significant difference in abdominal mucle tone and reduction of low back pain.  Also when yoga is practiced regularly you’ll have an increase in body awareness and thus will be more likely to choose healthy foods that will nourish your body.  The increase in healthy foods along with your regular practice will result in firm, toned abs and a peaceful spirit.  Time to give it a try! –Sara Holliday MFT, CPT
