Postpartum Weight Loss- Making Exercise a Habit

To Sara of Fit by Sara: “I’ve been conscious about my eating habits, but I haven’t been working out. After taking care of my kids, working, cooking and cleaning I’m so tired I don’t have the energy to exercise.  Do you have any tips to make exercise a habit?”

From Fit by Sara: “The feeling you’re experiencing is felt by many moms! It’s really about making the decision that you want your health to be a priority. Once you make that decision you’ll need to fit your workouts into your day.  For most moms getting your workout in first thing in the morning works best. Start off with a reasonable goal such as “I’m going to powerwalk for 20 min.” or “I’m going to jog for 10 min.”.  Slowly work your way up to 30-45 min. of cardio 3-5 x per week. Also, make exercise part of your day by taking the stairs whenever possible, parking your car further from the grocery store and walking, and running around with your kids. The hardest part about exercise is getting started.  Once you get in a routine of exercise it quickly becomes a habit because exercise produces feel good hormones known as “endorphins” which your body will actually crave when you stop exercising.”- Sara Holliday MFT, CPT
