Postpartum Weight Loss- Is Walking Enough?

To Sara of Fit by Sara: “I want to lose 20 lbs. (mostly around my belly and thighs).  Is walking and healthier eating enough to lose the weight?”

From Fit by Sara: “Walking is an excellent form of exercise, and one I highly recommend for beginning exercisers.  It’s easy on your joints and can be done almost anywhere.  If done at a brisk pace you can burn several hundred calories in an hour.  Also you can incorporate hills to increase your calorie burn and tone your thighs and buttocks.  The other benefit of walking is it will increase your energy and elevate your mood.  Start off slowly- walk 6-10 minutes the first day.  Each day increase your walk by 5-10 min. so you eventually walk 40-60 min. nearly everyday.  Once you’re consistent with exercise you will lose weight and you’ll feel great! -Sara Holliday MFT, CPT
