Postpartum Weight Loss: Why Exercise Isn’t Enough

To Sara of Fit by Sara: “I used to be able to eat anything I wanted as long as I exercised. After I had a couple of kids I put on weight and can’t lose it with exercise. Why is this? Do I need to workout even harder?”

From Fit by Sara: “Our metabolism slows down as we age and your hormones change after having children, both of which contribute to your difficulty in losing weight with just exercise. I don’t know how often you workout and I don’t know your intensity of your exercise, but you likely need to change your eating habits in conjunction with your exercise routine to lose weight. Make simple changes such as eating more whole grain breads, cereals and pastas, eat less processed white flour foods, increase your veggies and fruits, decrease your consumption of candies and sweets, increase lean meats and low-fat cheeses and decrease cream sauces and processed meats. Be aware of your portion sizes, stop eating on the run, relax, sit down and enjoy the flavors.” –Sara Holliday MFT, CPT
