Feature Yoga Student~ Peaceful Rob Hastings

Rob has a very peaceful manner which spreads calm throughout the studio. He became interested in doing yoga when his wife, Cat suggested they take a class together. Rob soon found the many benefits of yoga, one of which was relieving severe back pain. It wasn’t long before Rob became a dedicated student. I feel so proud of how far Rob has come in his yoga practice-from his flexibility, calm, and ability to let go of thought, he is a true yogi. -Sara Holliday MFT, CPT

1.  How old are you?  40

2.  How many years have you been practicing yoga?  1 year

3.  Before you starting practicing yoga what did you think it would be like?  I thought it would be very spiritual.

4.  What prompted you to try a yoga class with Sara?  It was something I could do with my wife, who has being doing it longer and loves it.  Also, I thought it would be good for my back, which I’ve had problems with for the past few years.

5.   What made you decide to come back to more classes with Sara?  Yoga made me feel great physically and relaxed mentally.  The setting is ideal, the instructor is fantastic, and the difficulty level is perfect.

6.    What advice do you have for others seeking a yoga instructor?  I happened to get it right on the first try, so I am lucky.  I would just say that if you don’t feel better mentally and physically afterward, you might want to try someone else.  But don’t give up if it seems a little too challenging.  You’ll eventually catch-on, and it will be worth it.  If the atmosphere is right, there should be no self-consciousness as you learn.

7.    How has yoga improved your flexibility and or strength?   My shoulders are much stronger than they used to be and my lower back and hamstrings, which are extremely tight, are more flexible.

8.   What’s your favorite yoga pose?  Pigeon, because it works my problem areas, it feels great, and I can do it reasonably well.

9.   What do you like about yoga?  I like how it clears my mind and gives me the feeling that I am taking care of my body.

10.   How have you changed physically, mentally and spiritually since practicing yoga?  Physically, I am stronger and more flexible.  Mentally, I am calmer during the rest of the day, even if it means sneaking in a yoga breath or two.  I don’t know if I’ve changed much spiritually, other than just getting more in tune with myself.

11.   How have you benefited from yoga? Yoga has brought my wife and me closer.  My back is doing much better and I feel calmer and stronger.
